Ok well I'm writing this blog sat in my cousin Azmeh's house on her husband Naveeds laptop - which is way cool. :-)
Its raining outside and the weather is just like Manchester, except the rain here feels like ice on the skin, trust me I know.
Yesterday we were meant to get up early.... and I did. How cool is that?! Ok so well, so by Toronto time it was 8.30 am and by Uk time it was 1pm - but hey! I got up early, and thats what counts! My cousin Saniya, bless her, just couldnt get up, it took her ages, which was fine cos it took me ages to iron my dress. The flaming thing just wouldnt get de-creased. It was so irritating.
We finally left the house at 11ish, got dropped off at the "subway" and went to York University. I would like to take this time to say that I have taken pictures of each step of my journey with the idea to use them in my blog but I forgot to bring the card reader to Azmeh's house (very clever, I Know!).
While travelling to the subway in the car I had an opportunity to study downtown (thats what they call the city centre) Toronto in the light of day. And I was right, its nothing like England. Everything is built "wider". By wider I mean, the buildings are built far apart from each other and their normal roads are at the very least dual carriage ways to us. People drive big cars, its rare to see small cars like Polo's or Golf types.
They are only a couple of million people living in Toronto and therefore it seems kinda empty after London. Here rush hour looks like normal time traffic in London i.e. the traffic is still moving!
Anyway, York university was a huge sprawling campus built in what my cousin told me was contemporary style, looked more like 70s style to me but hey!who am I to talk?!!
I asked questions, got some answers... blah blah.
We then met up with some of Saniya's friends, Mohammad (called Mo!) and Amna - really nice people. Fun.
Thats when it started to rain. And can I tell you how freakin COLD it got! Bloody hell. The rain felt like ICE. I was so cold. But we persevered. Went to eat lunch at this Thai restaurant which they claimed was a bit pricey but good. Man the food they was finger lickin good. And pricey? Less than half what it would have cost me in London. It was like $15 to eat a starter and a main course. Thats like 7pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, the price included drinks. :-) oh yeh!
Anyway, once we had eaten we had to be brave and go out into that evil rain again. We headed back downtown to my aunts house where we crashed till they came home and kicked us out :-)
But that had given us time to chill and get warm again... feeling had eventually returned to my poor numb feet.
From there we went Cosmic Bowling - thats kinda like Bowling in the dark with disco lights.... interesting. Very. And before you get excited I lost and may I say, I lost in style! :-) Saniya is very competitive in sports and couldnt take my losing with grace, and started to coach me in how to do better.... what can i say, she's a good teacher. Her tips worked but too late to do me any good. Oh well...... bowling cost like $5.
Btw, by this time they had all gotten sick of me converting every price back into pounds and exclaiming over how cheap it all is. Lol - I wonder why. Mo (mohammad) is going to come to Manchester to study some complicated Economics thing next year. I think he's going to love it.... who could not adore Manchester?!
We finally got home around 10.30ish, quickly ate, I packed up some things and we drove to Azmeh baji's house where I was to spend the night.
Today... I plan to go to university of Toronto and check out their courses.... so InshAllah it all goes well. Please remember me in your duas everyone and someone please make instikhara for me! lol cos I think I'm just too confused......

your confused now am lost! are you moving there or just there on holiday???
........are you planning on studying in canada??????!!!!!!!????
Why????????????????
The education is waaaay better here.....even under Blair.
And I can prove it! I went to Canada to see some British mates who were living there for a couple of years. Two of their children had skipped a year in school as soon as they had arrived. One of the kids was 2 years older than my sis, who is bright but not like a genius or anything.
My dad set them some maths to do (sorry..."math") and their kid spent AAGGGEEESSS working it out, using a whiteboard and everything. Nat got it within ten seconds.
So go somewhere where they will at least challenge you!
You are too bright to mess it up in Canada!!!
u went to the uni alone??? wow! i am impressed! my sis aint scared of nuttin no more!
say... is my sis actually feeling more comfy with the idea of living out there??
NM: I'm always lost! I'm here visiting family and scouting jobs and MScs.
Ayesha: Its about getting a career I can succeed at, that pays well and an MSc I actually want to do! Make sense?!
Lam: Ha! Are u kidding?! If i went to the uni alone I'd still be wondering the streets of toronto looking for it!!! Lol - u know my utter lack of a sense of direction. BUT I have been doing my own talking and thinking (u think that will help - or should I stop?!)
well sweetness, it might just be the change that you need so check things out, there is nothing quite like getting away for a while
