This morning the weather was atrocious - really really bad. When you are standing at a bus stop at 7.30am the last thing u want in zero degree temperatures, gale force wings, blindingly cold rain, not to mention thunder and lightening. Yet such was my start to the day today.
And of course, today the bus was late. By the time it arrived I was drenched - somehow water was INSIDE my boots. How is that even possible???
Yet as I stood there in that pre-dawn light, shivering inside my seriously inadequate layers, it occured to me to look up.
Now normally I wouldnt do that - its not a good idea. Rain gets on your face, in your eyes and your face freezes, instantly. Yet today as I looked up I was awed by creation. The street lights shone through droplets of water sheeting down from the sky and turned them a golden amber which against a backdrop of blackness looked like golden diamonds falling from the sky. It occured to me that no matter how inconvenient I may find this rain, no matter how cold or wet or mad it made me, this rain was essential to the Earth; and in some places in the world such rain would be a cause for celebration, a blessing.
Of course this inspired mood lasted till the next prick of a driver splashed me with dirty puddle water while whizzing past in his car! Then the realisation came that my face was frozen! Ugh!
And of course once I was at work with my boots AND my socks drying on the heater in my little cupboard of an office the sun came out and it stopped raining - now what part of that is fair???
