Secondly, I was just watching Empire of the Sun - you know that movie about that kid running around during WW2 in POW camps etc? Its one of my favourite movies, cos while your watching it you get a brief, probably shallow, view of what happens in a war, in one of those camps. The fighting, the fear, the weakness, the tears, the anguish, the homesickness - not to mention the politics. Does the politics ever end?!Ever??!!
There is a scene in that movie that always makes me cry, it gets to me every single time - when the kamakaze pilots are getting to fly off and the kid, Jim, joins in with them while they are singing their national anthem. I dont know what he is singing (if you do -let me know!) but his voice is so clear, so beautiful... it rises pure in that scene. And it makes the poignancy of that scene really stand out.
I'm not just talking bout this because its a beautiful movie but also because we, me and Lam, went to a march today. A march about Guantanamo. No we were not cheering it on. A march to stop what is happening there - the illegal, immoral, unethical kidnapping, torture, caging of men and women, and sometimes children (hey anyone under 18 is a child - u know its true!).
What is happening there is unforgivable. And what is equally unforgivable is if we stand back, say and do nothing, and let it happen.Like we are letting Israel make war on Lebanon like its been making war on Palestine for the last 50 years.
For the sake of three men Israel is bombarding Palestine (nothing new there) and Lebanon, which it claims its going to bomb not just into submission but "20 years into the past". Its Ok if Israel kills hundreds and thousands for the sake of three men who were on active duty. Who cares if children die? Who cares if the women scream for the bloodshed to stop? Who cares if the fathers carry the bodies of their babies to their graves?

Not Israel.
NO Israel says its defending itself. Sure it is.... and yesterday I found out I was the blond queen of Sheba.
Israel should be ashamed. Not least for talking about 3 men taken illegally by its enemies, compared to the 10, 000 Lebanese and Palestinian men and women in its jails.
And George W Bush - our old, mentally-lost friend. What a freak. What does he have to say about this??? "The best way for the violence to end is for Hizbollah to lay down its arms". I'm sorry, but I have to ask, is he living on planet Earth - cos its hard to believe. He must be from Planet Crazies-R-Us. Hizbollah are armed. Yes. Even I can see that. But Israel is the 4rth most friggin heavily armed country in the world! Ummm... hello. Remember ur words Mr Presidento "balance of power" - ummm... Israel has it. Tell the big bullies to stop. But u wont. That would be asking too much from you - it would be asking for integrity, honesty, justice, faith and a sense of morals.
Israel..... better be careful. Its surrounded by muslims, and we are all one big family. Its surrounded by enemies.
The middle-east is exploding.
SO more innocent are going to die.
(BTW, the pics r from the march today).
