Christmas!

Ok so I dont celebrate Christmas, nor do I like the fact that everyone gets stressed out and spends lots and lots of money on tonns of stuff no one really wants.

But there are a couple of things about the spirit of Christmas I do like, and these are still intact today:

1) They make it special. People go out of their way to make this a special day and commemorate it. I think thats lovely. We should celebrate Eid this way - w
hole heartedly. Especially to show children how joyful and full of fun Eid can be, not make them dress up and sit at home waiting in futility for someone to come and visit them! Thats not just boring but counterproductive - kids need to see that Islam is as fun and interactive as any other religion... that it is infact - BETTER.
So give presents, take the kids (or ur parents) out -make the day special. Make an EFFORT!
2) Family. One of the best aspects of christmas I feel is the appreciation of family. How on christmas day the WHOLE family gets together, sits down and has meal together. That togetherness is so important in todays isolated and hectic world where noone has time to visit or relax with anyone else for any real amount of time.
On this day, they all make time to spend with their loved ones.

Thats special.

And of course:

3) Good food. Need I say more Nemo?! lol

And I thought, why should we get left behind. We dont celebrate Christmas but we take advantage of the free time and opportunity afforded by the time off etc.

So I bought us a chicken with my sister roasted, we roasted some veg etc to go with it and had ourselves a feast!!! Mmmmmmm.....!!! It was yummy, I can tell u.

And I thoroughly enjoyed it - wonder what i can think of for Eid?!!

i know! Eid should be the No1 special day (s) in the lives of our children as well as us - but instead they look across to our fellow christians and jews and see the big deals made about Hanuka and Christmas and just feel shortchanged.

I know i THINK I was - by the eids spent at home getting bored outta my skull as a child!

Now I make sure I have FUN!
